Candle

The candle has been a source of light and heat for much of human history. Candles made from beeswax have been used since the third millennium BC in Egypt and Crete. During the 19th century, the first paraffin wax candles appeared.

The candle has been used in religious ceremonies for centuries. In Christianity, the candle is a symbol of the light of God, and is used extensively during worship services. They are equally as important to many other religions, including Judaism, where candles are lit every Friday evening in preparation for the Sabbath.

The candle has also been used as a measure of time. Markings on the candle would indicate how long the candle had been burning. Evidence of “candle clocks” has been found dating as far back as the Song dynasty of China.
