Candle Holder

The candle holder has been around as long as there have been candles. The most basic holders are simple metal plates that have a spike protruding from the center. The spike is designed to be inserted into the bottom of the candle, thereby holding it in place.

A candle holder can also be made from glass. However, glass holders generally look more like containers. Votive cups are common glass holders. Some candles are actually poured directly into a large glass container, which has the advantage of not allowing the wax to drip all over as it melts.

An antique candle holder can often be a cherished heirloom. Until the early 20th century, nearly every home in the world contained candle holders, as candles were the primary source of light. Even though they are not used everyday as they once were, they are still passed down from generation to generation.
