Candle Making

Candle making is a traditionally done by a “chandler”. Much like a cooper, or a smith, the chandler had a very important job prior to the industrial revolution. Without their services, the world would’ve been a much darker place.

The art of candle making is not difficult to learn. Candles are generally made from one of three materials; beeswax, soy wax or paraffin wax. Each has its own unique characteristics.

Beeswax is generally considered the easiest material for candle making. In most cases, it comes in small sheets and is simply rolled tightly around the wick. Once it’s been rolled, the edge is sealed through pressure applied with the thumb.
