Gel Candle

A gel candle is made from a mix of mineral oil and polymer resin. When the powdered resin is added to the mineral oil, it acts as a solidifying agent and results in a thick “gel”. Gels usually come in one of three densities; CLP (low), CMP (medium) and CHP (high).

Since the density of the material used when making a gel candle effects the amount of fragrance that it can hold, it is important to know what you want ahead of time. For most applications, a CLP gel is more than adequate. However, if you plan on embedding any items into the gel, such as colored glass or beads, CHP gel is recommended.

Melting point is another consideration when making a gel candle. Because gel has a much higher melting point than other materials such as paraffin wax, it is important to be patient. In order to make pouring as easy as possible, it is essential to wait until the gel is completely melted before pouring.
