Soy Candle

Soybeans are commonly used for many things, including the soy candle. Soy wax is non-toxic, has a low melting point, and can be grown locally, eliminating the need to import paraffin wax. Soy candles are becoming more and more common across the country.

When using a soy candle, the first burn is the most important. In order to avoid the “tunneling” effect common to many candles, it is important to make sure that the candle is allowed to burn long enough on the first light so that the entire top of the candle becomes melted. Once this is done, each time you light the candle, you will get a smooth even burn.

As with other types of candles, fragrances and dyes can be easily added when making a soy candle. The fragrances are often in the form of essential oils, which are mixed with the melted wax and then poured into the mold. As the candle burns it releases theses smells into the air surrounding it.
